Creative Code Lab 3 (WS 2025)

#Creative Computing (BA) #Student projects

The third Creative Code Lab (CCL-3) of the bachelor degree programme Creative Computing focuses on the design, development, and evaluation of mobile applications. Here you can find an overview of the Lab’s results.

At the end of the winter semester 2025, the students had two weeks to apply what they had learned throughout the course to the development of their own mobile apps. Working in teams of two, they implemented their ideas as native Android applications using Kotlin. They refined their apps based on feedback from usability and user testing and finally presented their results at the end of the Lab. Following this intensive effort, the students proudly showcased their creative and functional apps. A selection of these projects is presented here, highlighting the skills they acquired.

Chromatic HarpTabs

Developed by Abiodun Adefusi & Joshua Tjhie

Chromatic HarpTabs is a focused application for collecting, viewing, and practising chromatic harmonica tabs. It provides a structured tab library with consistent notation for blow, draw, and slide use and a practice mode designed for active playing. In addition to reading tabs, users can preview notes directly in the app using a virtual harmonica, allowing them to hear what passages should sound like before playing them on a real instrument. The app relies on clarity, quick access, and practice-oriented interaction rather than passive browsing.

Snorly

Developed by Lukas Pesendorfer & Laurens Tuerk

Snorly is a smart sleep tracker and alarm clock app designed to help users wake up more easily and improve their sleeping habits. The app tracks sleep duration and quality during the night and presents the data in a simple and easy-to-understand way. To prevent users from oversleeping, Snorly uses interactive puzzles that must be solved to turn off the alarm. These puzzles help wake up the brain and make sure the user is fully awake before the alarm stops. Snorly is designed for students and busy people who struggle to wake up on time and want to build healthier sleep routines.

AR Build Studio

Developed by Livia Gaind & Emil Größinger

AR Build Studio is a workspace where users can prototype spatial designs by scanning a surface and using virtual blocks in augmented reality. Users can save their builds as well as reopen and edit them. AR Build Studio enables spatial prototyping and professional planning in AR. Users, like creative individuals and planners, or professionals and designers can scan real-world surfaces such as tables, floors, or counters and place, move, and arrange using virtual blocks to plan and build layouts, design spaces, and visualise concepts before implementing them.

Honourable Mentions

The applications created during CCL-3 were diverse, and many more would deserve recognition. A few examples include an all-in-one digital library manager and e-reader, an authentication app, a gamified workout tracking app, and a 4-in-1 wellbeing tracking app.
