Krizzle – The Note-Taking App with a Twist
During the MediaLab in the summer semester of 2025, the students developed Krizzle, a mobile application for creating notes and collections that stands out for its adaptability and flexible organisation.
During the summer semester 2025, students of the App Development Media Lab were given the task of designing and developing an end-user application for mobile devices. Each team of students had to manage the project structure, timeline, and team coordination themselves and deliver a fully functional app by the end of the semester. The students chose to develop Krizzle, a powerful note-taking app with a customisable collection system where users can group similar items together.
Objective
Krizzle is a user-friendly note-taking app designed to be both accessible and highly adaptable to individual needs. It offers a clean, intuitive interface for capturing everything from quick thoughts and checklists to detailed entries and project notes. Beyond simple note-taking, Krizzle emphasises flexible organisation through fully customisable collections.
These collections serve as containers for related items, such as books, movies, or any topic, each with user-defined fields tailored to specific needs. Whether a user is jotting down ideas or tracking media, the app adapts to their workflow.
Instead of relying on rigid structures or pre-built templates, Krizzle empowers users to build their own systems from the ground up. Its design highlights simplicity and full customisation, making it easy to use while remaining powerful enough for highly personalised organisation.
The app was developed with offline-first functionality and follows WCAG AA guidelines. The target audience is students and young professionals between the ages of 18 and 35 who value the creation of notes and the organisation of personalised content for academic, professional, and private use.
Project steps
To achieve the project goal, the team followed a user-centred development process with a focus on usability and personalisation. The project consisted of various steps, from initial research and concept creation to development and user testing. Feedback from the user tests and stakeholders was used to refine both the functionality and the design of the app.
Each team member contributed according to their strengths, e.g., in the areas of app design, front-end and back-end development, usability testing, and branding. Collaboration and open communication were important to the team's workflow and enabled a seamless development experience.
Outcomes
The final Krizzle app includes features such as note-taking including various formatting options, fully customisable collections with user-defined templates, and offline-first support. The app requires no signup or login and starts with an onboarding phase to explain core features to the user.
Krizzle was presented at the MediaLab Vernissage as a finished, production-ready app. While some features such as export options or additional customisation tools are planned for possible future improvements, the app successfully fulfils its core mission: the flexible organisation of notes and collections.
