Bachelor programme Social Pedagogy

Social Pedagogy & Social Work have evolved into a growing sector with a strong demand for qualified personnel. Potential areas of activity are diverse and include various target groups and fields of work:

  • Children and families: Activities in day care centres, residential communities, crisis centres, family intensive care, leisure activities, parent-child residential groups, child welfare institutions
  • Adolescents and young adults: Assistance in youth centres, job coaching, production schools, mobile youth work, boarding schools, mentoring programmes, residential communities, training workshops, work with juvenile offenders
  • People with disabilities: Support in residential communities, workshops, personal assistance, work assistance, promotion centres, job initiatives
  • Healthcare and rehabilitation: Activities in social geriatrics, social psychiatry, children’s wards, nursing homes, addiction prevention institutions, AIDS support, palliative care

The part-time bachelor degree programme Social Pedagogy is offered as a dual programme. Starting from the 3rd semester, your studies are closely connected with a part-time activity in the social sector in Lower Austria. Practice and teaching blocks at cooperating institutions are fixed components of the curriculum and serve the purpose of practical implementation and specialisation.

Social pedagogues / social education workers are prominently involved in shaping the everyday lives of people in need of assistance. They promote learning processes and accompany individuals through challenging phases in life. Their field of work encompass inpatient, outpatient, and mobile services in the social sector.

Social pedagogues are active in many different areas, for example:

The bachelor degree programme Social Pedagogy covers 6 semesters.
