Merit-Based Scholarship

Merit-based scholarships recognise students with outstanding academic performance. Applications for the 2025/26 academic year can be submitted via CIS (login required) from 1 October to 30 November 2026.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for a merit-based scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • All courses of the 2025/26 academic year must have been successfully completed by 31 October 2026.
  • The weighted grade average must not exceed 2.0.
  • Recognition of prior learning pursuant to § 12 FHG may not exceed 5 ECTS credits per academic year.
  • Recognitions granted as part of a study abroad semester are exempt from this limit.
  • Meeting these requirements is the minimum prerequisite for submitting an application.

Who Can Apply?

The following persons are eligible to apply:

  • Austrian citizens
  • Persons with equivalent status (e.g. EEA nationals and recognised refugees)
  • Stateless persons

Application Period

Applications can be submitted from 1 October to 30 November 2026.

Submission

Applications must be submitted via CIS (login required) under "Registrations" → "Merit-Based Scholarship".

Scholarship Amount

The amount of a merit-based scholarship ranges from EUR 750 to EUR 1,500.

Award Procedure

  • Scholarships are awarded by the respective degree programme director.
  • In the event of identical grade averages, additional criteria may be taken into account (e.g. the grade awarded for the final examination).
  • There is no legal entitlement to the award of a merit-based scholarship.
  • The ranking of applications will be published. All applicants will receive a reasoned decision regarding the outcome of their application.
