Meeting of project leaders on citizen science
A few days ago, project leaders of Lower Austrian citizen science projects funded by the Lower Austrian Research Promotion Agency (Gesellschaft für Forschungsförderung Niederösterreich m.b.H., GFF) met at our university.
Within the framework of Lower Austria’s Research, Technology and Innovation Strategy (RTI Strategy), GFF funds projects in which citizens actively contribute as project participants, researchers, or project leaders, working together with Lower Austrian universities, higher education institutions, and non-university research organizations to develop new knowledge, new technologies, or new innovations.
Health, Dealing with Disinformation, Social Inclusion
The following representatives from USTP – University of Applied Sciences St. Pölten took part in the meeting:
- Michaela Moser, University Lecturer at the Department of Social Sciences,
- Brian Horsak, Head of the Center for Digital Health and Social Innovation, and
- Lukas Daniel Klausner, Researcher at the Institute of IT Security Research.
At USTP, they lead the following citizen science projects:
- Projekt ACCESS – Assessment of clinically relevant biomechanical biomarkers in the field to predict physical function and health in patients with knee osteoarthritis
- Projekt CSAD – Young Citizen Scientists against Disinformation
- Projekt SINN – Strengthening Inclusive and Sustainable Neighbourhoods
- Projekt SPUR – Socio-spatial framework conditions for inclusive forms of housing for people with experiences of mental illness in rural and small-town areas of Lower Austria
Networking Meeting on Citizen Science
The thematic range of the projects presented at the meeting extended from history, psychology, and sociology to health sciences and biology.
A total of 33 participants from ten research institutions in Lower Austria were present, including representatives from Danube University Krems, the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, the Ferdinand Porsche FERNFH, and other institutions.
GFF is currently funding 14 ongoing citizen science projects in Lower Austria, with a total funding volume of approximately EUR 5 million.
