Bachelor programme Young Childhood Education¹

The programme equips you with solid theoretical, practical and research-based competences for professional work in early years education. The four central areas of competence are:

Professional practice competence

You acquire the foundations for the professional education, care and upbringing of children. To support and shape learning processes effectively, you combine practical skills with research-informed knowledge and an open, reflective attitude.

Collaboration competence

You learn how to organise collaboration professionally and build strong educational partnerships. You deepen your skills in working with parents, institutions and external professionals. Interdisciplinary and networked working are key elements of your future role.

Reflective competence & psychodynamic concepts

You critically reflect on your own pedagogical practice and learn to understand and develop it within its specific context. At the same time, you strengthen your awareness of the perspectives of children, families and colleagues. Input on inclusion and diversity further supports the development of your professional approach.

Research competence

You learn scientific methods and how to apply them in professional practice. This enables you to actively contribute to quality development and to the broader advancement of early childhood education. Towards the end of the programme, you write your bachelor’s thesis, supervised by academic staff and aligned with relevant questions and needs from the field.

From the 6th semester onwards, you can choose elective modules to develop your own academic focus – for example on interprofessional collaboration with selected health professions or on the multilingual and translingual life worlds of children.
