Master Class Augmented & Virtual Reality

Interactive Technologies

The masterclass combines creative thinking and technological know-how to show you how AR, VR, and MR technologies can be innovatively used for storytelling, knowledge transfer, entertainment, or in the industry. Hybrid worlds shape the future of interaction – and you help shape these worlds with innovative projects implemented in small teams.

Teaching Content

Concept and Design

This unique class is a practice-oriented lab space where you can turn your visions into reality using Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and Mixed Reality (MR). You acquire the necessary tools and, most importantly, realise concrete ideas from the first sketch all the way to an interactive lighthouse project. The focus is on the creative connection of digital technologies and real-world requirements.

In small groups, you learn to design immersive 3D environments for entertainment, education, or the industry. You turn your concepts into game-based and future-oriented projects that can be experienced – with applications both on head-mounted displays and in the real world.

Development

You develop dynamic applications that use multimodal interaction and artificial intelligence to adapt to individual users. Spatial Computing (the seamless merging of digital and physical worlds) and Edge AI (locally operated artificial intelligence) come together with design principles from game studies, user experience, and target group research to create forward-thinking  immersive experiences. Field trips to leading AR/MR projects show you how this knowledge can be successfully translated into practice.

Implementation and Application

The AVR masterclass focuses on creative and innovative design. From gamified VR learning environments for educational purposes to medical AR therapy using haptic feedback: You merge physical presence with virtual experiences. The final project comprises the complete implementation of an operable AR/VR/MR system with optimised audiovisual experience, intuitive interaction design, and unique user experience.

Labs and Equipment

Learning with cutting-edge technology: our labs offer the students the opportunity to put their product ideas into practice – from 360-degree audio and advanced post-pro techniques to virtual simulations and more.

Examples from the Master Class Augmented & Virtual Reality

Poltergeist Bootcamp

Multiplayer Arcade VR Game for 2 players. In a 1950s American style kitchen, a budding young poltergeist has the task of causing greater chaos than his opponent.

Several game modes provide variety. Various options such as power-ups or objects to get in the way of the opponent ensure fun and turn the game into a sporty workout.

Ornitophobia VR

Overcoming real fears in a virtual space: students have developed an app that can be used in therapy to treat patients with a fear of birds. Thanks to artificial intelligence, the virtual pigeons can actually react to the real patients.

Motex VR

Masterklasse Augmented & Virtual Reality

Virtual driving lessons! The VR driving simulator helps learner drivers develop a sense for traffic and allows for a high-quality and modern driving education.
